The second-largest Mega Millions jackpot of Fiscal Year 2023, $1.35 billion, was won by a single ticket in Maine Friday, January 13 (the sixth Friday the 13th jackpot hit in multistate draw game history) after 25 drawings passing without a jackpot winner. The Mega Millions jackpot was the second largest in the game’s 20-year history (behind only an October 2018 draw), fourth largest domestic jackpot ever up for grabs, and largest Mega Millions jackpot ever offered to open any calendar year. This was the fourth jackpot in just two years to cross over into the billion-dollar territory thanks to the current matrix, which results in larger, less frequent jackpots. The big-buck drawing comes on the heels of Powerball’s $2.04 billion+ largest-ever lottery prize being won in November, and only four months after Mega Millions itself had produced a $1.34 billion jackpot – ensuring, as we told you, a good year for the Hoosier Lottery (and, by proxy, its management services provider, IGT Indiana).
